Musée de la Batterie de Merville

(Merville gunsite museum)

Location:

Near small place called Merville-Franceville, about km from the coast, Normandie, France. The site is part of the "D-Day Le Choc" ("D-Day the collision") route in Normandie. This is one of the 8 tourist routes that guide you through the Normandy battlefields. You can find information on these routes with most of the tourist offices.The routes are very well signed.

Description:

The Merville gunsite was seen as threat for the British invasion beaches and the captured bridge over the Orne river ("Pegasus Bridge"). British Airborne forces captured the gunsite on the 7th of June. In one of the gunpositions (bunkertype Regelbau 611) is currently a small museum.

Opening hours:

Between the 1st of July and August 30, daily from10:30-12:30 and 14:30-17:00.
